How to use Xtool V401 Disable Seat Belt Alarm on VW Passat

Today, I will show how to disable the seatbelt alarm on a Volkswagen Passat B5 using Xtool V401. I'm driving a Passat B5 model but they should work on most other Volkswagens, just check with the reference information, I'm gonna link above for the specific instructions for your car.

So what I'm talking about disabling the seatbelt alarm is when you turn the ignition on a Volkswagen.

It gives you the fast seatbelt warning and it beeps two, even if the car is that can be quite annoying if you are sitting out.

So in order to turn this off, what we've got to do is go into the bag for one and select "Diagnose" -> "Diagnosis systems" -> "Common system" -> "17- Dashboard"

So once you turn out of dashboard, you will notice, there's a number right here where it says COD: 07235 (it has a number following that), You need to write this down this is the number that we're going to be modifying in order to turn off the seatbelt alarm.

So a quick word about what these numbers mean: the numbers in the first two position indicate what warnings you want on and it works by adding these numbers up and what I mean by that is like if you wanted brake Pad wear warning and seatbelt warning, only you would do 1*2 equals 3 and so the number right here would be 03.

By default I think most of them are 07 which means brake pads, seatbelt and washer fluid warning, like I say that's 1*2*4 will be 7.

In order to disable one of those you just subtract the corresponding number away from whatever your number is.

So on mine Xtool Vag401, they said the first number was 07, so in order to turn off the seatbelt warning which is 02, I'm just going to subtract 2 from 0, 7 to give me 05.

The number in the third position here is what region your car is in and this determines what units your car uses whether it's kilometers or miles Celsius or Fahrenheit and whether it uses a 12 or 24 hour clock system.

I'm in the USA, so I'll be choosing USA but of you choose Europe or United Kingdom, it has an added feature where it will also disable the open door alarm where if you open the door and it beats, you can disable that by selecting Europe or United Kingdom as your region, the other regions will not turn off the door alarm.

But bear in mind if you do decide to change to one of these regions, it will change your the units that your car uses to the units for those regions.

Number in the 4th position is what your service interval is.

If you've got T4 cluster, look at these numbers. I've got a normal salt cluster, so I'm looking at this number right here in North America they recommend you use number 3 which is no service interval, so that's what I'm going to be choosing.

And then the last number is your distance impulse number and what that is, it's a relationship between the diameter of your wheel and how many impulse your car sends to the wheel per revolution to determine your wheel speed and in turn determine what your speedometer reads.

So if you change this number, it can change what your speedometer reads whether it's reading a little bit fast or a little bit slow, so if you decide to change this number you'll need to test your car with a GPS, in order to make sure what your abdominals is accurate.

How to use Xtool V401 Disable Seat Belt Alarm on VW Passat 11

I'm not going to be changing that though, I'm just gonna be keeping it what it is.

And so like I said make note of this first number in my case COD: 07235 , I've got a 2004 Volkswagen Passat B5.

Go ahead and hit enter.

And then scroll down to "07- Code Module".

So I said in order to disable seatbelt alarm which need to subtract 2 from whatever those first numbers were my case, that was 07 so I changed the number to 05.

Number 2 is North American region. Remember, if you want to disable your door alarm make that second earth, make this number 1 or 4.

Service interval 3, because I'm in North America and then this last number is the distance impulse number needs to be 5 for me.

And with that we can go ahead and hit enter, and it will program the system.

When it's all done, it'll say finished.

And before you disconnect to Xtool V401 you need to exit all the way back out to the main menu.

They say that if you don't go back to the main menu of Xtool V401 before you disconnect it from the power it can interrupt the process on this and potentially mess up this device.

So anyway, now that the car's been reprogrammed, you can see I turn it off. Yeah, when I turn it back on, no seat belt warning, that's what we wanted alright.

My experience On Xtool VAG401 Diagnostic Code Reader

I received my Xtool VAG401 scanner recently around £36.00with DHL shipment to my place. For anyone else thinking about buying this reader, they're a lot cheaper direct from 𝕏𝕥𝕠𝕠𝕝.𝕌𝕂 company, free postage to UK/IRE
Xtool VAG401 scanner

Tried it out straightly on my  𝟮𝟬𝟬𝟱 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙩  and found it quite easy to use. If you have used VCDS VAG COM cable, you can probably figure out how to use this without reading the manual!

#xtool
They include a microSD card reader used for the updates. They also include a USB cable. The only use I have seen for the cable is to power up the unit from a USB port instead of your car. It came with a 160 * 160 LCD screen, and therefore no need to use a laptop or computer when diagnosing.
The OBDII cable that hooks between the V401 scan tool  (VAG401 )and the car is a straight-thru cable. There are no components in the back shell of the OBDII connector. The other end has a 15 pin male d-sub connector.
I was able to use mine to read out the key code from the dash. I verified that it was the same as one I had gotten previously from VAG- Tacho. This is on my Passat TDI.
It reads error codes just like VCDS, although there is no auto scan function to scan all modules that I can find. It has successfully found all installed features on both my Passat and my friends Allroad. Both of my cars are dual knot CANbus. I have not tried it on CANbus car yet.
The best way I can describe the interface to the modules is the older VCDS lite interface. The original module menus were almost a copy of VCDS, although the latest update simplified them somewhat.
It supposedly can match keys to the dash/immobilizer, although I have not tried it. It has a few other functions that VCDS does not have, such as mileage changes, etc. It can code modules, do adaptations, etc.
I figured out to update mine. Download the update application from the Xtools website, and use the VAG401 serial number as the user name, and the password from the about screen as the password. You do not need to register.
I downloaded the updates, and it said the update was successful. When I started the diagnosis, it loaded a new .bin file. Menus changed somewhat, and new options were added.
I got it in a couple of days. If you travel a lot, you can keep it in the car. You do not need a computer or power supply to use it, which is great. It has a lot of capability for the money and is very convenient. However, user support is nonexistent, so being previously familiar with VCDS is a definite plus. I can not speak for how well it works on current model cars.

How to Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401

Today, Xtool.co.uk recommended a cheap vag OBD tool that can support EPB reset for you — XTOOL V401 (Xtool VAG401)

Purpose: Replace parking brake (EPB)
Why replace the Old brake pad?
Unlike mechanical issues that can arise out of nowhere, your brake pads will usually signal when their time is up.
But ignoring the screeching noises when you hit the brakes can affect not only safety — but also your pocketbook.

Car model:  2010 Audi A5
Symptom: Brake Pad Indicator Light Comes On
Tool Option:XTOOL V401
What I Did to Do:
Putting the electronic rear parking brake into service mode using an Xtool VAG401. Total time from start to finish was about 1 hour which includes jacking the car up and removing the rear wheels.

Procedures:
Connect a battery charger to the car. Turn the ignition on but don't start the car. Plug the Xtool into the OBDII slot and select Diagnose.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 1
Select Special Function
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 2
Scroll down until you see Brake Pad Replacement. Select Brake Pad Replacement.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 3
I have a 2010 Audi A5 so I selected Other Models.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 4
Select Replacement of Brake Pads
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 5
At this point you want to press the parking brake button down to release the rear brakes. Then press enter.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 5
You will start to hear the electronic parking brake motor start to back out.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 6
The light on the parking brake button will slowly flash, and the "brake" light on the cluster will slowly flash as well. Now you're ready to replace your brake pads!
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 7
I wedged a flathead screw driver in between the brake piston and the old brake pad and leveraged the piston back into the caliper.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 8Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 9
I used a 13mm socket for the back bolt, and a 15mm box wrench to hold the nut down.

Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 11
Replace the old brake pads with the new ones.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 10
Reverse the steps that you took to remove the pads and reinstall the caliper. Check everything and put the wheels back on.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 12
Now go back to the Xtool. The screen is still displaying the old message of replace the rear the pads for the two rear wheels. Just hit enter on the Xtool. The electronic brake is moving back into position.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 13
When the electronic brake stops, the Xtool will say "Replace brake pad success". The brakes are still not applied. The motorized piston just pushes back out until it reaches the new pads.
Replace EPB 2010 Audi A5 with Xtool V401 14
I turned the ignition off, then back on/started the car. I exited all menus on the Xtool, then I lifted the parking brake button to activate the electronic rear parking brake. Success!

BTW, Here you are 6 Signs It’s Time To Replace Your Brake Pads

1. Squeaking or Squealing Coming From Brakes
If your brake pads are near the end of their useful life, the first symptom you’ll begin to notice is a squeaking or squealing noise coming from the brakes. Squealing brake pads are typically caused by excessively worn down pads. Once you’ve worn down your pads enough you’ll start to experience a grinding noise, at which time you’ll also begin to damage your rotors, making the cost of repair even more expensive.

2. Grinding Sound When Braking
Like we stated above, if you’re experiencing a grinding noise while you’re applying pressure to the brake pedal, your brake pads need to be replaced ASAP. Some brake pads have built in metal wear indicators, which are designed to make a loud noise and alert you that it’s time to replace the pads. If you leave the brake pads to continue grinding, you’re opening yourself up to a lot more damage and higher repair costs.

3. Vibration When Braking
Vibration, when you apply the brakes, is another sign that your vehicle’s braking system is in need of professional help. Chances are that your rotors are warped and created uneven brake pad wear at the same time.

4. Taking Longer To Stop
Another major sign that your brakes need to be checked out is loss of performance when applying the brakes. If you’re experiencing less than ideal stoppage times while applying your brakes, it may mean your brake pads are worn down completely or that your brake fluid is low (oftentimes due to a leak). For a true understanding of what’s going on with your brakes, you’ll want to get to a brake mechanic as soon as possible to ensure you don’t lose all braking abilities.

5. Brake Pad Indicator Light Comes On
Most modern vehicles come with brake warning lights that appear on your dash. One is your Antilock Braking System (ABS) light and the other is your brake system warning light. Your brake light won’t always come on when there is an issue — it’s also the light that appears on your dash when your parking brake is engaged. But if you’re seeing a brake warning light and your parking brake isn’t engaged, it’s time to have a brake expert take a look at your system to diagnose your issues.

6. Your Brake Pads Appear To Be Thin
One way to easily check on your brake pads is to visually inspect them for wear. To do this, look between the spokes of your wheels and locate your brake pad. If it appears to be less than a ¼ inch thick, you’re probably due for a set of new brake pads.
